Three classrooms, thirty days
In July 2018 a classroom wall at Chhatrapati Vidyalaya, Sakhare, came down in the rain. No child was inside. The school, which teaches 1,100 Adivasi students for free, could not pay to rebuild.
Friends of the Foundation funded three classrooms. We bought the bricks, sand, cement, tiles, paint and roofing ourselves and finished in 30 days. Local artists painted Warli on the new walls. The village, the sarpanch, the teachers and the students inaugurated them together.
The school’s Class 10 pass rate that year was 96%. The topper walked 7 kilometres each way and scored 93%.
